General Medical Practitioner ARRS role

·
Part time
Location: Portsmouth
·
Job offered by: NHS
·
In recent years the role of General Practice and Community Care has expanded at an exponential rate. Traditionally, GPs with a small team were able to meet the vast majority of their patients' needs. Over time, societal change, population increases, and role expansion have changed the face of General Practice forever. We are seeing ever more complex patient care needs and targets. It is very clear and perhaps unsurprising then that additional GP time is essential in modern General Practice. This developmental role for newly qualified GPs offers a rich supportive learning environment. This new GP role offers carefully defined and limited hours and does not require the GP to hold a list. It is an opportunity to work in a highly organized, friendly, and progressive team but with a lower intensity job than our traditional salaried GP roles. Main duties of the job

The applicant should be a qualified General Practitioner in their first two years post completion of training. The post holder will be able to work as an Independent General Practitioner (however mentorship will be offered, and the supportive team, clinical and non-clinical, will help and support the doctor in their new role). The post holder will be part of the Island City Network Team and will be expected to be able to undertake all normal GP work including face-to-face consultations, telephone triage and consultations, home visits, and GP administration work. Work will be varied between routine and same-day work. It is vital the GP understands that a key part of the role is to reduce workload for other members of the primary care team and provide effective, efficient care for patients. About us

Island City Network is an innovative, friendly, and forward-thinking healthcare group. We are located in the fascinating Historic Naval City of Portsmouth on the South Coast. Where we lead, others follow. General Practice is changing at pace and we see this as a positive and opportunistic challenge. Island City Network includes Island City Practice and Derby Road Group Practice. Our combined list size is approximately 55k patients. Island City Network is proud and enthusiastic to be an inventive front runner in the new era of The Primary Care Network. Job responsibilities

In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties, including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing prescriptions, and dealing with queries, paperwork, and relevant correspondence in a timely fashion. Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation. Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems. Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness. Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols. Providing counselling and health education. Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate. Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards. Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions. Prescribing in accordance with the Network ICB locality prescribing formulary. In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within the primary care (however within a time-defined non-list holding Network role). This position is 37.5 hours per week (part-time applications will also be considered). Open to GPs currently in their first two years post completion of training certification. Currently, the contract is offered until March 31st, 2025; however, it is presumed NHSE will announce further extension to this ARRS funding, and an extended contract will be offered at this point if the post holder is meeting job role requirements.
