About the role

This is a permanent full-time post for a Consultant in Public Health, employed by the London Borough of Barnet. The Public Health department is based in Colindale, 2 Bristol Avenue, London NW9. We have hybrid working arrangements. The purpose of the role is: To lead on the healthcare public health portfolio and support the Director of Public Health through deputising. Provide population health input into our Barnet Borough Partnership, support the Health and Wellbeing Board, lead on embedding a systematic approach to reducing health inequalities into the local Borough Partnership work, and provide leadership in health protection emergencies. Work with partners to implement the borough’s Health and Wellbeing Strategy and contribute to the development of Barnet Council’s Corporate Plan. Be a whole system leader on population health at the local level (across NHS, voluntary and community sector, Council and wider partnership) building on the existing partnership with the North Central London Integrated Care Board (NCL ICB) colleagues and provide links with the NCL ICB and Public Health jointly funded central team.

About you

This is an exciting opportunity to join the high-achieving and diverse public health team at Barnet Council. Essential criteria for this post include: Leading on the healthcare public health portfolio, which includes providing public health leadership to the Barnet borough partnership and Health and Wellbeing Board, leading and further developing NCD prevention programmes, and reducing health inequalities. Being a whole system leader on population health at a local level (across NHS, voluntary and community sector, Council and wider partnership) and continuing to build on the existing partnership with NCL ICB colleagues. Supporting emergency response by leading on outbreak management and the council’s pandemic preparedness plan, and deputising for the Director of Public Health when required. This is an ideal opportunity for a suitably qualified and skilled Public Health Consultant who wishes to progress their career in local authority public health.
