Our Shared Service functions work collaboratively to provide the essential business infrastructure that supports effective operations out on the network. We are looking for an IT Solutions Architect to liaise with internal stakeholders at all levels to understand business challenges and opportunities and propose the introduction of new solutions or changes to existing services to support positive business outcomes where appropriate. Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to research, define, evaluate, and propose technical solutions to satisfy business needs. Consult on the implementation of agreed solutions and assist in the transition of changes into service operation.

Strategy & Planning

Maintain an awareness of Pole, Division and Delegation business plans and strategic roadmaps and objectives by actively engaging and managing various key stakeholders. Liaise with senior Divisional staff and users to understand business activities, technology problems and innovation requirements. Work alongside Business Analysts, product owners, users, and ICT staff in the definition of requirements for technology changes. Ensure strategic alignment of designed solutions to Division and Delegation requirements and such governance standards as may be applicable. Research such emerging technologies as may be applied to UK businesses. Ensure self-awareness of applicable technology and roadmaps associated with current services as may affect the organisation. Develop an in-depth knowledge of technical service architecture and interfaces. Assist in the development of standards and policies for Solutions Design purposes. Support and communicate the strategic and operational governance activities of the ICT function. Maintain relationships with a variety of relevant external suppliers. Assist in the definition of annual roadmaps and technical visions for a variety of current systems based on feedback, technology trends and the broader ICT roadmap.

Design and Transition

Competently research, price, propose, design, and consult on the deployment of new IT solutions and enhancements to existing platforms. Facilitate/attend workshops for the development of requirements and solutions with internal and external parties. Co-ordinate design approvals prior to implementation activities in a well governed and communicated manner. Document existing and to-be systems architecture. Document or assist in the documentation of solution collaterals including systems administration guides, maintenance regimes, access management protocols, user guides etc. During implementation, develop and execute test plans for new solutions to ensure alignment to specifications and requirements. Act as an accountable party for the implementation of technical solutions and assist in the development and continual improvement of appropriate processes. Perform periodic site surveys/activity reviews in support of design efforts. Actively assist in early life support and transition activities to ensure a seamless transition to operation for all applicable activities.

Operational

Research and develop/define methods and processes for the enhancement of design activities. Provide guidance and assistance to users and members of the ICT department. Provide management information reports pertaining to design activities. Assist in the management of cost within applicable platforms through active maintenance and oversight of platform spend and utilization, and by challenging and re-factoring areas of overspend. Assist in the maintenance of the IT Service Catalogue.

Additional Information:

Experience working in a solutions design capacity. Experience working in depth with the Microsoft stack. Experience working in structured, managed ICT service environments.
