Planned Care Division Colorectal & Stoma Clinical Nurse Specialist The Hillingdon Hospital Trust is a District General Hospital in West London. The hospital serves the borough of Hillingdon (population > 300,000). The London Borough of Hillingdon is contiguous with the Hillingdon Primary Care Trust and Clinical Commissioning Group. It incorporates Heathrow Airport and has a spectrum of ethnicity and deprivation consistent with its location. The Trust gained foundation status in April 2011 and comprises of Hillingdon Hospital situated in the south of the Borough, which supports acute services, paediatric and maternity services. Mount Vernon Hospital, to the North of the borough, delivers out-patient services, elective surgery, elective Endoscopy and some older people's services. Mount Vernon also hosts the North and East Hertfordshire Cancer Centre which our patients use. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 7 Colorectal & Stoma CNS to join the colorectal nursing team at Hillingdon Hospital Foundation Trust. The trust runs a busy colorectal surgical unit across two sites, Hillingdon and Mount Vernon hospitals. The colorectal unit is supported by five colorectal surgeons and the colorectal nurse team. The nursing team consists of three clinical nurse specialists and one stoma nursing assistant. We are seeking a highly motivated, clinically experienced band 7 looking to develop their colorectal and stoma nursing skills in this dual role position. Main duties of the job As a Colorectal and Stoma Care CNS you will: Implement best practice associated with colorectal and stoma care nursing. Provide specialist nursing care to patients with a diagnosis of colorectal cancer and benign diseases of the colon. Act as a named keyworker contact for patients with a colorectal malignancy, their relatives and carers on behalf of the colorectal cancer MDT and provide support for patients and carers from the time of diagnosis onwards. Provide specialist nursing care to patients who require a stoma for malignant or benign reasons. Be responsible for the co-ordination of the patient's treatment pathway, acting as a link between primary, secondary and tertiary care. Contribute to improving patient experience throughout their pathway. The post holder will deliver specialist training and education programmes at all levels both in hospital and community settings. The post holder will work within a small team and at times unsupervised. Monthly clinical supervision is provided. They will assist in and initiate the development of protocols and procedures, and in research and clinical audit for the specialty.
