Carers’ Lead, Mental Health Urgent Care

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Mental Health Urgent Care Services, working as the Carer's Lead within this directorate. The services provide time-limited support to people experiencing a mental health crisis, and the Carer's Lead will be responsible for ensuring those supporting individuals are themselves supported and educated, delivering individual and group facilitated sessions to this cohort.

This is a part-time role and requires high levels of visibility to ensure the Carer's voice is heard within the services. Working flexible hours, including some evenings, will be required to ensure Carers have the opportunity to receive support.

Main duties of the job

Implementing the Trust's carers strategy across mental health urgent care. Developing carer strategy action plans for mental health urgent care services, evidencing the impact, evaluating effectiveness, and measuring outcomes. Responsible for introducing quality improvement initiatives and activities to enhance carer services within mental health urgent care. Design and deliver carers psychoeducation and support programmes across all mental health urgent care pathways. Engage and involve friends, family, and carers in service design and development activities to ensure the carer voice is heard.

Job responsibilities

Previous Experience

Essential Personal or Carer lived experience of mental illness and services Previous experience of supporting, leading and facilitating groups - ideally carer groups Experience of working effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and multi-agency environment Experience of developing and delivering bespoke training within a healthcare setting Experience of leadership, delivering coaching, mentoring, supervision and/or appraisal of junior colleagues Involvement in service redesign and development. Experience of networking, co-developing, engaging and involving stakeholders both internal & external Co-producing service developments with service users, families, and their carers Experience working within MH Urgent Care Services

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Essential Excellent knowledge and understanding of the health and social care systems and operating frameworks, clinical observations, recovery approaches etc. Demonstrable communication skills including verbal, written, interpersonal and presentation skills Ability to manage own workload, prioritise, delegate as appropriate and seek creative solutions to problem solve Ability to implement and develop action plans, monitor and audit carer strategy activities Strong organisational skills and the ability to analyse situations and be able to make the right decisions Able to empathise, be supportive and sensitive to the needs of others as well as being able to cope with distressing circumstances Ability to cope in a pressurised environment and apply practical problem-solving and organisational skills Advanced IT skills and the ability to navigate around various systems and software packages (such as outlook, databases, MS office, PowerPoint and the internet) Able to work flexibly on a shift pattern as required and the ability to travel independently between locations to fulfil the requirements of the position Recognise the needs of our culturally diverse community. Ability to treat service users and carers with respect and dignity at all times, adopting a culturally sensitive approach, which considers the needs of the whole person Able to communicate and form positive working relationships with peers, carers, service users, and those working in other professions / agencies Ability to deal with emotionally demanding situations, to remain calm under pressure, and to be adaptable to demands of the role

Additional Requirements

Essential Ability to travel to multiple sites with minimal impact on daily productivity. Car owner/driver and possesses full UK driver's licence or evidence of ability to travel to designated base and other sites.
