Open until filled SUMMARY: The Prevention Worker will coordinate, plan, and deliver parenting programs and assist families within the Aboriginal communities to enhance their parenting skills, coping skills, critical thinking skills, and resources that contribute to strengthening positive parent-child relationships. Provide counseling to families to address parenting issues related to the health, adjustment, development, and well-being of the children. Provide counseling to address issues specific to children and adolescents such as delinquency, maladjustment, addictions, sexuality, etc. Provide information to parents/caregivers on conflict management and supportive parenting that will enhance relationships and decrease conflict within families. Facilitate referrals to other service providers or treatment programs as necessary for the accomplishment of the treatment plan. Receive client intakes and provide written reports in accordance with the parenting program’s policies and procedures by reviewing client referrals, collateral reports, and meeting with clients. Maintain accurate case notes written within twenty-four hours of contact regarding parenting counseling sessions, collateral, and case conference information. RESPONSIBILITIES: Receive referrals, connect with family, build rapport, develop Family Wellness Plan. Assist family in achieving wellness goals through in-home support services (cleaning, organizing, meal planning, routines, budgeting, educational awareness, etc.). Facilitate tailored therapeutic activities, connecting them to appropriate programming/referral sources and providing financial assistance when necessary (baby essential needs pantry, Support Services). Deliver consistent community programming with a focus on parenting/parent-child relationship. Facilitate educational/awareness presentations on the following topics: infant/early childhood mental health, nutrition, screen time, attachment, the importance of routines, maternal/paternal mental health, family bonding, etc. Collaborate with local community resources on various initiatives that promote family wellness in your target population when available. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor of Social Work Degree or relevant Social Services Diploma. Minimum Two (2) years in the Social Service Work field. Possess a valid “G” Driver’s Licence with clean driver’s abstract. Must provide a Vulnerable Sector Check prior to employment. Must be willing and able to travel.
