About the role We’re seeking an experienced Financial Controller to oversee our day-to-day financial management, reporting, and compliance functions. This role requires an understanding of UK accounting standards, with multi-entity experience preferential. You will be responsible for key functions such as treasury oversight and the accurate preparation of financial statements. In addition to ensuring compliance with tax filings and regulatory requirements, you will take ownership of internal controls, mitigating risks and developing policies to optimise our financial processes. This role also involves a strategic dimension, as you will have responsibilities for making sure that the reporting of all businesses within the group - Workspaces, Investment and Professional Services - are accurate and efficient, to drive strategic decision making. Collaboration with all teams will be critical to ensure our financial systems are robust and responsive to organisational needs. A key part of your role will be to drive efficiency through improvements in our current processes and by leveraging automation in our ever-strengthening tech stack: Xero (Accounting software) Fathom (Consolidation reporting) GoCardless (Automated Payment gateway) OfficeRnD (Workspace management) Pleo (Expense Management) MayDay (Multi-entity month end processing) Dext (Bookkeeping automation) Your key responsibilities Month-end accounting, through Xero, MayDay (Inter Company allocation) & Fathom reporting. Supplier management, managing payments, invoicing, and credit control. Monthly payroll - payments, admin, and pensions. Preparing for, and managing, audits of all group companies. HMRC and Companies House secretarial admin, including VAT and County Hall filings. Expenses - management, securing authorisations, and processing e.g. CapOnTap, Xero, Trainline, Uber. Employee and workspace member onboarding and offboarding. Handling employee, supplier, and member financial and payment queries, always seeking to identify improvements, to reduce bottlenecks and drive efficiency. Must haves Minimum 3 years experience in similar finance functions Experience in financial reporting (financial accounts, management accounting and payroll processing) Experience of working with Xero, plus other financial tech software experience (any of the above desirable) Good communication skills - verbal and written Passion for sustainability and about the climate movement Preferred Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; professional certification e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA. 3+ years’ of developing financial policies e.g. internal controls and financial processes. 3+ years experience of working with external vendors e.g. auditors and tax advisors Experience in applying financial controls and effectiveness metrics. Experience in finance functions of workspaces and/or consultancies. Additional details Salary: £45,000 - £60,000 (prorated to part-time hours), plus Bonus. Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week is preferred, but part-time will be considered. Location: Our Finance team is based in our London workspace, with employees typically working on a hybrid basis (3 days in the office). We can be flexible to candidates who prefer to work fully-remote (UK only), or from one of our offices in Manchester, Cambridge, or Glasgow.
