An opportunity has arisen for an HCPC registered Clinical Scientist to provide support to the Treatment Planning aspects of the Radiotherapy Physics Service at Singleton Hospital.

Appointment at a lower band will be considered for candidates currently enrolled on STP, Route 2 or Equivalence.

Main duties of the job

The main role of this post is to provide advanced support to all aspects of the work of the Radiotherapy Physics Service and undertake specialist clinical and scientific activities in support of the provision of high-quality, advanced radiotherapy treatments.

The post will provide the holder with continuing opportunities to progress within the field of Radiotherapy Physics leading to recognition as a Medical Physics Expert. The post holder will at times be assigned to specific projects managed by a Principal/Consultant Clinical Scientist and will contribute to relevant research and development projects within Radiotherapy Planning, preparing and presenting scientific reports. Research and development is a significant commitment of this post, accounting typically for at least 10% of the time. The post holder will be expected to routinely work a typical pattern of two weekends per month.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential

Accredited MSc in Medical Physics or equivalent Registration as a Clinical Scientist (with HCPC)

Desirable

PhD To be able to act as a Medical Physics Expert (MPE)

Experience

Essential

Specialist training on and general practical experience of treatment planning systems Participation in research or development projects

Desirable

Experience of a specialist area (e.g., VMAT/IMRT, IGRT, radiotherapy imaging, Radiotherapy IT, film dosimetry, EPID dosimetry, electron treatment, treatment planning site specialisation, Monte Carlo modelling, in vivo dosimetry, clinical trials etc.) Evidence of development and implementation of clinical capabilities using new technologies
