Are you passionate about working with children's language and communication? Would you like a new challenge? We have a new role available for a specialist teacher to join our team working alongside our therapists and assistants.

The post-holder will be part of our single point of access team, providing assessment and supporting schools to deliver therapy programmes and advice for children with language and communication needs and building on our existing training offer.

You will have experience of working with children with language and communication needs in schools, have a secure understanding of effective approaches to support these needs and be able to evidence this through CPD.

Main duties of the job The post-holder will provide therapy packages for language and communication, supporting schools to integrate programmes.

The role will include: Some language and communication assessment as well as training and development work. Conduct video-based sessions and face-to-face sessions in schools in the areas of language and communication. Support schools to develop bespoke communication programmes for individual children. Provide assessment and reports within the scope of their professional qualification. Have delegated responsibility for language and communication training as part of universal and targeted programmes in schools. Use their transferable knowledge to support schools to integrate language and communication work into the child's education. Influence effective delivery of school-based approaches for speech, language and communication support in schools. Be involved in some day-to-day planning.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential Relevant degree (BA/BSc), NVQ level 6, Ordinary degree or equivalent demonstrable experience. Qualified Teacher Status. Evidence of specialist qualifications/training relevant to area of practice (i.e., specific training in evidence-based approaches for language and communication and managing sensory needs).

Desirable Management or supervisory qualification or experience of study. Working towards Master level study.

Experience Essential Experience of taking a leadership role supporting children's language and communication needs. Experience of delivering language and communication programmes in schools. Practical experience in managing education-related projects and evaluation. Experience of group management/facilitation and training design and delivery. Sound judgement and logical approach to complex situations, with ability to determine and implement solutions. Experience of having managed people. An understanding of the current SEND agenda and challenges.

Desirable Experience of leading and managing teams.

Knowledge Essential Proven use of office systems, with advanced use of Microsoft Office, i.e., MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel. Specialist knowledge in area of expertise. Evidence of continued relevant professional development and implementation in practice within the last 12 months.

Skills Essential Excellent inter-personal skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively with a wide range of people from different backgrounds at all levels of seniority. Excellent written and verbal communication skills including solid presentation skills. Proven standard of word processing skills, with a high standard of presentation and accuracy. Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize and work under pressure to meet deadlines. Ability to communicate complex, sensitive information to individuals and groups. Strong influencing and negotiating skills.

Personal attributes Essential Ability to motivate and organise others to ensure best practice. Ability to work under pressure. Flexible and adaptable. Ability to apply a common sense and logical approach to identify key or underlying issues in difficult situations and use initiative to solve problems. Ability to deal with situations and discussions frequently, objectively and with emotional intelligence. Ability to travel to diverse sites.
