EPUT is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and passionate consultant to join our Liaison Team based at Basildon Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing clinical leadership for the assessment and management of adult patients 18 years to 70 years old admitted to Basildon Hospital. The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician for patients detained under the Mental Health Act to Basildon Hospital.

You must have full GMC registration and be on the Specialist Register, with an appropriate CCT or equivalent or be within six months of obtaining your CCT on the date of the AAC.

Job description

Job responsibilities Provide clinical leadership and be the Responsible Clinician for the General Adult patients referred to the Liaison team. Review new patients in a timely manner and oversee the clinical management of patients on the wards. Be available for timely CPA meetings and facilitate discharge planning. Carry out duties as Responsible Clinician, including Mental Health Act assessments, preparation of tribunal reports and giving oral evidence at managers hearings and mental health review tribunals (if required). Be actively involved in supporting staff development and in effecting continual service improvement. Provide clinical supervision to the trainees. Participate in clinical audit to ensure the continuous improvement of the service. The old age Liaison services has an experienced full time consultant psychiatrist. The post holder will only be expected to provide cover for holidays and absences.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential MB BS or equivalent medical qualification Registration with the General Medical Council and on the Specialist Register. Meets Royal College of Psychiatrists criteria for appointment to the post of Consultant. Section 12 Approval and Approved Clinician Status.

Desirable Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management. MRCPsych On the Specialist Register with qualifications General Adult. Postgraduate degree in psychiatry MRC Psych or equivalent. Additional clinical qualifications.

Eligibility

Essential Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice at the time of appointment. Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months. Approved clinician status. Approved under Section 12.

Desirable In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.

Clinical skills, knowledge and experience

Essential Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty. Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others. Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA.

Desirable Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service. Utilises a quality improvement approach to think systemically about complex problems, develop potential change ideas and test these in practice using a systematic QI methodology.
