Assistant Financial Controller
The Assistant Financial Controller will assist in ensuring the efficient and effective running of the finance function within the hotel. This includes the management of controls and compliance and ensuring reporting is maintained to a high standard. They should provide business acumen to parties within and outside the finance function to ensure that risk is mitigated and opportunities are taken. They should partner with the Financial Controller and General Manager along with other non-finance related disciplines to deliver on the overall objectives of the business.
Main Focus Areas Include:
Commercial Focus Reviewing costs and implementing processes where savings can be made. Working closely with other hotel departments to ensure understanding of KPIs. Reviewing margins and highlighting where improvements can be made. Preparation and review of weekly revenue and payroll forecasts. A prominent & leading involvement in the month-end process. Championing weekly/daily meetings and interactions with Heads of Department.
People Focus Supporting and becoming a key advisor to both the Financial Controller and the General Manager. Assisting in writing and implementing training plans and courses for non-financial managers within the hotel. In conjunction with the Financial Controller, helping to gain a better understanding of financial issues. Ensuring approachability and building relationships with the other Heads of Department and staff within the hotel.
Controls and Compliance Ensuring all financial controls and procedures across the hotel are robust, sustainable, maintained, and updated. Examining Internal Audit Reports and agreeing on corrective actions. Championing the use of technology and more effective and efficient ways of doing business.
Month End Preparing the Month-end lead schedule. Reconciling balance sheet control accounts including accruals and prepayments. Managing Income Audit to ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness. Engaging with the Shared Service Centre and utilizing technology to its best purpose. Managing the collection of debts on a timely basis.
