Coroner's Investigator Permanent Grade 4 - £33,366 - £40,476 Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review Working 36.5 hours per week Birmingham and Solihull Coroner’s office are looking to recruit a Coroner’s investigator to their Team to work under the judicial direction of the Coroner. The role will involve the investigation of sudden, unnatural or violent deaths and deaths of persons in custody or state detention on behalf of the Coroner in accordance with the Coroner’s and Justice Act 2009. Applicants will need to have excellent communication skills, a positive team work ethic and a willingness to be flexible. It is a busy and challenging role which demands resilience, flexibility, excellent investigative skills and an ability to gather, record and evaluate proportionate evidence for the Coroner. You will also need to have some knowledge of medical terminology and be comfortable and confident in speaking to other professional agencies as part of the investigation. You will work closely with bereaved families at a difficult and distressing time so you must be able to remain calm and empathetic. An important part of the role will involve the identification of the deceased where you may be exposed to distressing images. It is likely that you will have proven experience as a Coroner’s Officer, a nurse, a paramedic or an investigator with transferrable skills. You must upload a Supporting Statement via the attachments part of your application. This is required for shortlisting; you need to describe how your experience and skills fit the essential criteria for the role as specified in the Person Specification.
