The RF Sensing and EW Branch in Edinburgh is looking for an enthusiastic person to undertake analysis, develop algorithms and conduct research in support of integrated sensing and surveillance for the Australian Defence Force. Using the strengths from your background, you will develop and assess novel processing techniques for automatic tracking, fusion and sensor tasking algorithms that can deliver improved exploitation of multi-sensor data. As the ideal candidate, your passion to improve how integrated sensor systems operate today and your desire to innovate will contribute directly to programs within the ADF to improve their sensor surveillance capabilities. You will have the opportunity to think critically and work in collaboration with ADF personnel, academia and industry. You will have access to world class radar research facilities onsite in Edinburgh to assist you in your research and development. Under limited guidance, duties of the Integrated Sensing Specialist will include: Undertake original research in multi-sensor tracking, fusion and sensor tasking algorithms to enable future integrated ISR capabilities for the ADF. Transition innovative algorithms from offline research software to real-time operational demonstrations in our online development environment. Work closely with industry members to ensure research is relevant, and to assist in the transition of organic R&D into the warfighter. Engage and coordinate with our ADF clients to ensure work outcomes are aligned with Defence needs. Work with others towards shared goals in a team environment. Infrequent interstate travel will be required. Overseas travel may be required. About our Team

Sensors and Effectors leads the impetus for innovation within Australian force operations by providing science and technology advice about equipment, personnel and processes. The RF Sensing and EW (RFSEW) Major Science and Technology Capability (MSTC) within DST Group’s Sensors and Effectors Division (SED) drives the application of science and technology to solve problems and deliver solutions for the Australian Government and the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and improve their capabilities in radar surveillance. One of the key roles the Integrated Sensing team conduct is to develop and demonstrate multi-sensor tracking, sensor fusion and sensor tasking algorithms for integrated sensing capabilities. To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate the following: Considerable science research, engineering or technical knowledge and experience relevant to the role. A strong interest in working on automatic target tracking, fusion and sensor tasking problems and a willingness to expand your knowledge in the area. Demonstrated ability and experience to apply scientific or technical and engineering techniques to solve problems. Ability to work independently and as an inclusive team member, valuing diversity of ideas. Sound communication skills with ability to adapt communication style to meet the needs of different stakeholders. Ability to build good stakeholder relationships.
