What is the role? As a Graduate/Trainee Transport Planner, you’ll work closely with our experienced team, gaining hands-on experience on a variety of development projects. This entry-level position offers an excellent opportunity to grow your skills and contribute to shaping communities nationwide. Key Responsibilities: Understand the needs of clients, stakeholders, and the opportunities and challenges associated with development projects. Learn about the planning process and key policy documents (e.g., NPPF, Local Transport Plans, Decarbonisation Strategy). Assist with data collection, including traffic counts, travel surveys, census data, and GIS mapping. Conduct accessibility reviews to assess opportunities for active and sustainable travel modes and prepare clear visual summaries. Estimate trip generation for developments, predict travel modes, and assess the impact on transport networks. Use industry software to model junctions and evaluate traffic flow and network capacity. Contribute to the preparation of technical documents, such as Access Appraisals, Travel Plans, Transport Assessments, and Environmental Statement chapters. Critically review information, ask questions, and propose potential solutions to challenges in collaboration with project managers. Develop positive working relationships with clients, architects, planners, and highway authorities. Participate in business development activities, including networking and engaging with LinkedIn. Who are we looking for? We’re looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with a genuine interest in transport planning. The ideal candidate will have: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely. Strong analytical skills and proficiency in quantitative analysis and data presentation (ideally including Excel and ArcGIS). The ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple tasks and deadlines. Attention to detail and a commitment to quality, including personal responsibility for checking your work. Strong interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with colleagues and clients. A willingness to collaborate with other disciplines and stakeholders (e.g., architects and planners). Personal drive and a commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
