This role brings together Recruitment, Retention and Education for the Division of Surgery, developing our workforce to ensure high standards of patient care through continuous development of our clinical teams. Managing the Practice Education Facilitators in practice, you will be able to lead and influence clinical care, whilst working with the Trust Education team and Universities to align our academic and clinical care delivery. Overseeing recruitment and retention for nurses and AHPs will require divisional and trustwide representation, working alongside our Trust Resourcing team. This post provides strong compassionate, transformational, and inclusive leadership, with a visible, senior presence for nursing, allied health professionals (AHP) and learners across the Division of Surgery. The matron will work strategically to ensure the Nursing/AHP workforce is adaptive to patient requirements and be accountable for the delivery of optimum education, retention and resourcing, in line with the ten key matron responsibilities outlined nationally. The post-holder will act as the division’s point of contact for the development of accredited academic courses, whilst leading retention and resourcing for nursing and AHPs. As Matron, the post holder is expected to ensure that the planning of services involves patients and service users, and reflects the diverse population served. There is an expectation that the post holder will work closely with other matrons, Divisional Directors of Nursing and their deputies, and relevant clinical and non-clinical colleagues within the division and the wider Trust, linking with Universities, Colleges and other stakeholders as required. Knowledge and Experience

Extensive leadership and clinical operational management experience within a complex service provider organisation Significant clinical expertise in a Band 7 (or equivalent non-NHS) level nursing/AHP role Proven track record in contributing to the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies/protocols and guidelines relevant to education, retention and resourcing Considerable involvement in the development of standards of practice, conduct and decision making Expertise in supervising/mentoring nursing/AHP staff to support and promote effective service and care delivery History of collaborating constructively with internal and external partners to create conditions for successful partnership working Demonstrable understanding of quality and risk management Experience of developing business cases Knowledge of curriculum development, supervising students and guest lectureships in higher education institutions Experience of the management of change with an interest in culture change Skills and Abilities

Excellent leadership and organisational skills Self-motivated and able to work under own initiative and prioritise own workload and that of others as appropriate Personally resilient and able to manage complexity and work in a changing environment Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively, including strong report writing and presentation skills, excellent verbal and interpersonal skills Awareness of current professional issues that influence nursing/AHP practice in relation to education, retention and resourcing Demonstrable evidence of problem solving, strategic leadership and decision-making skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Able to inspire and motivate colleagues Supportive Respectful Qualifications and Training
