We have an exciting opportunity for a registered Pharmacy Technician with Hospital Pharmacy experience and a keen interest in utilising technology in the provision of Pharmacy Services. The successful post holder will be responsible for managing the Dispensary workload on a day-to-day basis and Supporting the Dispensary Manager in Service improvement taking part in Quality Improvement Huddles and ensuring that improvements discussed are followed through to completion. Experience in Robot management and Intelligent storage systems would be an advantage but not essential as training will be given. Applicants must have the NVQ Pharmacy Services Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) and BTEC or equivalent certificate and be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

Main duties of the job

To assist with the management of the day-to-day running of the dispensary by planning daily, weekly & monthly activities and ensure that they are completed. To lead the technical team in the provision of a dispensary based service to Out-patients, in-patients and private patients. Ensure that all prescriptions are dispensed accurately and in good time with appropriate supporting advice, in accordance with the Dispensary SOPs. To support the Dispensary Manager with the day-to-day running of the Dispensary. To dispense out-patient and in-patient prescriptions, discharge medication and controlled drugs in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures. To be a proficient operator and trouble-shooter for the Automated Dispensing Robot. To be responsible for training new staff to operate the Robot. To deputise for the Dispensary Manager in their absence. To assist in the recruitment of technicians and assistants and organise their induction. To be responsible for own continuing professional development (CPD).

Academic/Professional qualification/Training

Essential

BTEC and NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Sciences or NVQ Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills (QCF) Level 3 (City and Guilds) and Level 3 Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science (QCF) or equivalent qualification supported by Pharmacy work experience. GPhC registered Pharmacy Technician. The following qualifications in progress or willing to work towards: Accredited Checking Technician (ACPT).

Experience/Knowledge

Essential

Relevant Hospital pharmacy experience as a qualified Technician. Dispensing and Distribution stock control systems. Proven experience in training and assessment of junior staff. Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

Desirable

EPIC Computer system including Electronic Prescribing. Operation of Automated Dispensing Robot & Intelligent Storage Systems. Use of medicines in specialist area of paediatrics.

Skills/Abilities

Essential

Good oral and written communication skills. Good organisational and prioritisation skills. Problem and decision making skills. Methodical approach to work and good attention to detail. Good patient counselling skills & proficient in providing advice to patients/parents. Computer skills including Power Point, Excel.
