The Safeguarding Service provides the organisation’s board with assurance regarding the effective discharge of its safeguarding duties in line with relevant legislation and national guidance. The service takes a planned and systematic approach to monitoring, assessing, and improving safeguarding capacity and capability across the organisation's clinical services.

A vacancy has arisen for 22.5 hours for a Children’s Specialist Safeguarding Nurse to work within Wirral Community Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust on Wirral in the Safeguarding team.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist the Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children in taking a professional lead within Wirral Community Health and Care NHS Trust services on safeguarding children matters in association with the Named Doctor. Provide specialist advice, support, and training on Safeguarding Children to all WCHC staff. Promote good professional practice within community services relating to the safeguarding of children. In the absence of the Named Nurse, ensure senior managers are kept appraised of local performance to safeguard children. Support the Named and Designated Professionals in ensuring Wirral fulfills their responsibilities for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children in accordance with Working Together, 2023 and the Children Acts of 1989 and 2004. Support the Named Nurse to work alongside partners within the WSCP arena, to deliver partnership requirements in respect of safeguarding children.

WCHC is a busy community Trust and the Safeguarding Children's team is made up of four areas: Wirral, Cheshire East, Knowsley, and St Helens. The Wirral team is based at St Catherine's HC and consists of the Named Nurse, Specialist Safeguarding Children's Nurses, and Children Looked After Nurses, all supported by an administration team.

We work closely with children's services on Wirral and have built strong relationships with all agencies. The post requires good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to be adaptable, reliable, and approachable. You will have strong analytical and leadership skills.

Additionally, you will have a good knowledge of Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023, Clinical Governance, Risk Management, and relevant Professional Codes.
