An opportunity has arisen with the Hepatology specialist nursing team to recruit a Band 6 Hepatology Specialist Nurse for 12 months. We are looking for a highly motivated, proactive and enthusiastic nurse to help with the continued development of this service. Previous experience within the Hepatology setting is desirable, however the successful candidate will be given training and development to enable them to undertake this role.
The Hepatology Specialist Nurse will provide a service to support the care of patients with acute and chronic liver disease through different stages of their care treatment. You will demonstrate excellent communication skills, the ability to work in dynamic and often novel approaches, you will be organised, motivated and person centred.
Main duties of the job
You will work alongside the band 7 hepatology CNS and Consultant Hepatologist who will support the development of this role, and specialist training will be given. You will liaise with all members of the multi-disciplinary team. You will play a key role in the development of the Hepatology service within the Trust whilst being proactive in pioneering and developing the role in response to changes in practice and healthcare needs.

Job responsibilities
To support patients undergoing treatment in the viral hepatitis service, being a named point of contact, providing clinical care and psychosocial support. You will work to extend the reach of the GWH viral hepatitis service to ensure weekly attendance at network MDTs, enhanced work with the hepatitis C peer navigators and further work with the community substance misuse service to engage hard to reach clients. Independently support the care of patients with stable cirrhosis in dedicated clinics, ensuring surveillance scans and blood tests are timely and the risk of liver cancers or decompensation is identified and reduced. You will support the established fibroscan clinics and work towards extending the reach of the fibroscan service to enable rapid access referrals from the community and acute areas (full training will be provided), supporting patients with various hepatology needs. To demonstrate excellent communication skills with a wide variety of complex patient groups, providing emotional support in hospital and at home. Deliver care according to EASL, BASL, NICE, NHS England and Trust guidelines and evidence-based care. To ensure accurate and comprehensive patient records are maintained, in accordance with Trust guidelines. To act as an advocate for individual patients and the client group.
