The department is staffed by 3 Consultants, 6 x Specialty Doctors (including this post), 3 x Associate Specialists, 6 x Specialists, 3 x ST1, 5 x FY2 and 2 x Trust SHO. There is dedicated shop floor Consultant Supervision 12 hours each day Monday to Friday and eight hours per day at weekends. The department currently sees around 48,000 patients a year increasing during the summer months.
Main duties of the job Take part in the middle tier rota, covering 24 hours, seven days a week. Undertake professional development and participate in audit, ensuring all clinical governance areas are met. Be an active participant in regular clinical audit, including some coordination of audit. Comply with General Medical Council's 'Maintaining good medical practice'. Undertake annual appraisal for revalidation purposes which will include confirmation of continuing professional development via RCEM validation / recording. Substituting in an emergency for absent or ill colleagues and undertaking in exceptional circumstances irregular commitments outside normally rostered duties. Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.
Candidates must be ATLS, ALS and APLS/PALS certified. FRCS, MRCP, MCEM, MRCS or MRCGP is desirable though not essential.

Job description Job responsibilities This is a 10 PA post and takes into consideration time for audit and administration. The successful candidate will be part of the team providing middle grade cover to the A & E Department, supervising Trust Grade Junior Doctors. He / she will be expected to play an active part in the teaching and audit presently carried out in the unit. Attendance of courses and further professional development is strongly encouraged. Continuous support in completing work-based assessments will be provided throughout the post. Keeping resuscitation skills and courses up to date will be supported in-house, these include- ALS, ATLS.
St Marys Hospital Emergency Department is a busy and exciting environment. The nursing and support staff are highly trained, friendly and a great support to all those entering into this dynamic team.
Provide high quality emergency care, being competent in the normal range of emergency medical conditions and injuries. Direct clinical care will consist of scheduled shifts for the routine assessment and treatment of patients that present to the Emergency Department. Consultant presence is daily from 08:00 to 20:00 with off-site support out of hours. When a consultant is not present, the oversight of the department (EPIC role) will be taken on by a member of the middle grade team as the most senior member of the medical team on site.
The post holder will be expected to supervise and provide clinical advice to the medical and nursing staff on duty within the Emergency Department and support the clinicians within the UTC.
