Metaverse VR (MVR) is a high technology business that provides immersive training solutions, simulation and defence consultancy. MVR is based at Portsdown Technology Park (Portsmouth). Purpose The primary purpose of the role is to lead the MVR XR Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the 3D Modeller and XR Development teams in the delivery and support of VR and AR projects for the Defence and Private sectors. This role is also responsible for the management and development of these teams, creating plans to guide and encourage progression within their roles. As well as being responsible for the XR Team output, an additional purpose of the role is to collaborate with wider areas of the Business (e.g. Bid Team, PM and Systems Engineers) to ensure Programme costs, schedules and quality are understood and maintained throughout the project lifecycle, escalating risks and issues as appropriate. This is a key function within the role, and therefore understanding the time/performance/cost relationship of the XR team capabilities will be core. Responsibilities will also include working directly with clients, leveraging the expertise within the team to provide technical input and ensure the generation of designs, documentation and outputs for the project to the correct standard within deadline. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the XR Team Manager is expected to provide technical leadership, governance, oversight and support to MVR’s XR activities. Leading these sub-teams, the candidate will play a critical role in the successful delivery of MVR’s synthetic training solutions and the wider Delivery Team function. Responsibilities include: Line Management of XR Team Day-to-day management of XR Team activities to meet agreed outputs Ownership of the output of MVR’s XR portfolio and associated technical compliance, acting as the primary PoC for the HoE and wider business (PM, Systems Engineers etc.) Producing (working with technical team) robust cost (resource) and timeline estimates for XR activity Supporting the ongoing development of MVR’s Engineering Processes, Standards, Tools and Techniques Leading and mentoring a high-performing, motivated XR Team that can deliver MVR’s contracted deliverables and support future growth plans/opportunities Representing MVR at internal and external Technical Reviews, ensuring that all risks, dependencies and assumptions are adequately defined, understood and being managed to protect the interests of Metaverse VR and its customers. Effectively utilising XR Tech Leads to support day to day activity and drive efficiencies. Supporting bid and proposal activity, controlling engineering budgets, and finding robust, innovative solutions to technical challenges Specialist Knowledge and Essential Skills Proven success in delivering complex system/engineering products through leadership of an engineering team – preferably within a Defence and/or a Training and Simulation capacity Sufficient understanding of the SE process to be able to provide documented technical output to describe development items Knowledge of XR Modelling and Development Tools Strong presentation and reporting skills Knowledge of agile methodologies, tools and techniques Strong business acumen and associated understanding of Commercial, Programme and Organisational processes SC Clearance (and ability to obtain DV) Knowledge of the software lifecycles and environments Understanding of the system engineering lifecycle and associated gates, principles, tools and techniques Ability to develop modelling/development technical processes and provide clear and concise documentation describing the processes Working knowledge of the Product Safety, Security and Compliance Environment Knowledge of rules and regulations associated with controls for system/facility installations Why Apply to MVR?
