We have an exciting opportunity for an Electronic Systems Engineer within our CAT ICS Electronics European Division. Based in Stafford, you will be part of the Engine Electronic Systems and Software Team, responsible for the development and implementation of electrical and electronic control systems for powertrains developed by Caterpillar in the UK and built around the World. The successful candidate will work on a variety of electronic system projects to develop systems that meet both regulatory and customer requirements. You will develop your understanding of complex integrated electronic systems and have exposure to learn from, and influence, a global technical team. Additional Info

We have flexibility on working hours, with core hours being: 37hrs - with 45 minutes lunch You will potentially have the opportunity to travel to development partner and supplier sites within the UK and Worldwide Hybrid work pattern - minimum of 3 days per week on site What You Will Do

This role is the primary technical support for the Engine Electronic system. It will entail proactively working with other Electronics team members and with development partners, on the complete product development lifecycle from development prior to production, through to post-production maintenance including: Participate in the definition of the system architecture and related diagrams and schematics. Define software functionality for advanced controls. Participate in the selection of suitable electronic components. Participate in the failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) and validation activities for the electronic system and components. Maintain & improve validation test plans and perform validation tests. Provide technical support to queries related to pinouts, schematic questions, and software functionality and calibration support. Investigate, analyze, and troubleshoot any reported quality issues. Lead projects, creating and coordinating Multi-Generation Project Plans for components, systems, and for hardware in the loop (HIL) systems. On-site support for systems working in test cells, integration to factory systems, and engine governor tuning. What You Have

Candidates will have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles: Degree-qualified engineer with proven post-graduation experience in the broad range of systems engineering activities involved in the development of electronically controlled engine, machine, or related automotive control systems. Alternatively, a suitably aligned HNC/NVQ level 4 with additional relevant experience. Demonstrated experience of a variety of related tasks including: Electronic device and system integration activities for both fault finding and for electronic system design (e.g., PWM, analogue and communications signals). Actively collecting and developing detailed electronic-related customer requirements, resulting in electronic technical specifications. Defining electronic features to control and enhance electro-mechanical systems and coordinating the development of them by other teams. Performing electronic system verification testing of electronic devices and software features. Participation in FMEA development. Understanding internal combustion engines and how they are controlled (e.g., performance, combustion, emissions, governor, calibration, etc.). The ability to build strong working relationships, locally and within a global team. Follow, develop, and improve local processes. Skill Descriptors
