We’re recruiting up to three Journalists to join BBC Long Form Audio to work on The Global Story podcast. The daily pod is being relaunched this spring with a new editorial vision, with a greater emphasis on narrative storytelling. The BBC is investing in the Global Story to become the equivalent of the “front page” of the BBC in North America. The show will provide a deep dive on one big international story every day, giving the audience a deeper understanding of the context and stories that lie behind major global events. Long Form Audio is the BBC’s home of in-depth story-telling, producing some of the most listened to audio in the world. We produce content for multiple BBC radio networks, including The Briefing Room, Profile, More or Less, Crossing Continents, From Our Own Correspondent and AntiSocial for BBC Radio 4, and Assignment, Witness History, The Inquiry, The Climate Question and People Fixing the World for the BBC World Service. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of the founding team of this highly ambitious podcast, which will be a core part of the BBC’s offering to the US market. The successful candidate will be part of the Long Form Audio team, and may also have the opportunity to work across the department’s other strands and projects. Main Responsibilities

Deliver great ideas for stories, guests and audio treatments that give the podcast a strong identity. Sourcing and fixing the best contributors for the podcast, ensuring a diverse range of voices. Mixing audio, weaving through archive, music, and on-the-ground reporting to create high-quality narrative storytelling. Briefing the presenter ahead of interviews and developing the structure of interviews. Working to tight deadlines and managing time effectively. Understanding the international news agenda and spotting trends and stories behind the headlines. Referring sensitive editorial issues as needed. Communicating effectively with the presenter and contributors to ensure smooth delivery. Are you the right candidate?

We’re looking for creative and passionate journalists, who show initiative and want to make the best audio output. You’ll have strong narrative audio production skills and an understanding of storytelling through audio. Experience delivering high-quality audio storytelling with fast turnarounds. Narrative storytelling experience is desirable, with an understanding of narrative audio production techniques. Experience as a fixer, demonstrating creativity and ability to create impactful audio. A good understanding of the global news agenda is desirable. Awareness of the current podcast market, both inside and outside the BBC. Experience of working with presenters. About the BBC
