The Anglo-Austrian Society is seeking someone to join the Board of Trustees as Treasurer, as the current Treasurer stands down early this year. Ideally this will be a finance professional with an interest in, or connections with Austria. The Anglo-Austrian Society is a small UK-based charity (constituted as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation - CIO), which is committed to the maintaining and strengthening of Anglo-Austrian relations. The Society has about 350 subscribing members, most of whom live in the UK. The Society has no paid employees or office premises. A Board of ten Trustees is responsible for the affairs of the Society, and for ensuring that the Society carries out its charitable purposes for the public benefit. Central to these is the awarding of grants to support projects intended to encourage social and cultural exchange and dialogue between the United Kingdom and Austria. The Society's financial reserves are held in longer-term investment funds, managed by a leading London-based firm which has extensive experience of managing funds for charities. It is from this investment income that the Society's grant-giving is funded. The Society's accounts are examined annually and reported on by an Independent Examiner. The Board has four meetings a year (three online; the fourth is held in Central London). In addition the Treasurer needs to devote some time to maintaining the accounts, to dealing with banking transactions and to preparing papers for Board meetings. The key tasks of the Treasurer are to maintain an overview of the Society's financial affairs, ensuring that proper financial procedures are operated and that appropriate records arerr kept; prepare and present to the Trustees an annual budget and quarterly reports; oversee and report to the Trustees on the performance of the Society's investments; ensure that the Trustees are aware of their financial responsibilities; advise the Trustees on the use of the Society's financial resources; ensure that the Society has and follows an appropriate policy on financial reserves; set up and authorise (online) payments for invoices and for grants, including occasional overseas payments; liaise with the Society's Independent Examiner.
