Applications are invited for Trauma and Orthopaedics Specialty Doctor based at Sandwell & West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust commencing February and April 2025. These are fixed term posts for a period of 12 months with the possibility of a further extension and with a chance of being part of CESR rotation. The successful appointees will undertake elective and fracture outpatient clinics as well as theatre lists including trauma. Participation in the full shift on-call rota, currently 1:16 with prospective cover (subject to change) is required. This position mainly covers Midland Metropolitan University Hospital including post-take ward rounds and presenting at the morning trauma meeting. The appointee will be attached to a specific consultant or consultant team, covering both trauma and elective duties. They are required to attend both fracture and elective clinics on both sites: City Hospital and Sandwell General Hospital. A large majority of activities are consultant-led. Inpatient work includes review of trauma and elective patients, attending both elective and trauma theatre, and attendance on consultant ward rounds as well as performing ward rounds independently when necessary. This post is non-training and supportive, with duties subject to change based on departmental requirements, but sufficient experience is provided in trauma and elective orthopaedics. The post-holder will be responsible for the care of both elective Orthopaedic and Trauma inpatients as well as acute admissions via A&E and fracture clinics. There are excellent educational opportunities within the department, and audit and research activities are actively encouraged. These posts provide an exciting opportunity to work within a friendly department at Sandwell & West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust - a busy trauma unit covering Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH), Birmingham Treatment Centre (City Hospital), and Sandwell General Hospital, West Bromwich, with a busy elective orthopaedics service covering multiple sub-specialties. This non-training job is at ST3/4 level and would suit doctors working towards joining a training programme. The department offers excellent educational/training opportunities in theatre and clinics as well as regular teaching sessions in the form of journal clubs, symposia, workshops, and case-based discussions. Applicants must hold full GMC registration and have achieved CT2 level competencies within Trauma and Orthopaedics. Applicants should also possess the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, have good interpersonal skills, a caring attitude towards patients, and evidence of good clinical practice. Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWBT) is an integrated care organisation with a budget of approximately £600 million and over 7,000 staff. Diversity and social care is at the core of what we do as the Trust provides community and acute services to over half a million people in an urban centre that demands massive regeneration and has substantial premature mortality. Our new acute hospital, the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH), opened in October 2024 and provides care to our local population from first-class, purpose-built premises. The development of the new hospital will play an important role in the regeneration of the wider area and in improving the lives of local people while reducing health inequalities. We have three newly emerging strategic objectives: Our People:

to cultivate and sustain happy, productive, and engaged staff. Our Patients:

to be good or outstanding in everything we do. Our Population:

to work seamlessly with our partners to improve lives.
