Role Purpose

The role involves leading, developing, and managing strategies and implementations for the Council's preparedness response and resilience, as mandated by the Civil Contingencies Act 2004. Additionally, the role entails actively participating in Corporate Management Team and Departmental Management Team meetings as required and representing the council in meetings with external agencies. To deputise for the Head of Community Safety and Resilience when required. Responsibilities

To ensure departments have appropriate departmental planning arrangements and identified lead staff for emergency planning and business continuity. To assure the provision of professional Safety Services for strategic and operational planning and advice to the Chief Executive, Directors, Heads of Service and managers across the organisation. To undertake business planning, ensuring the teams work is aligned to the Corporate Plan, the London Resilience Local Authorities Panel (LAARG) business plan, legal requirements and the needs of customers. To manage the team budget and ensure the effective use of resources. To initiate projects and to negotiate, let and manage contracts and agreements to meet identified objectives. The post will, with the Head of Community Safety and Resilience, work with the London Resilience Local Authorities Panel (LAARG) and relevant government departments. To participate in the Council's 24/7 emergency duty system, acting alongside the Assistant Director of Corporate Strategy and Head of Community Safety and Resilience in the event of a major incident, and to play a key role in event of any incidents to ensure they are managed effectively. To demonstrate a commitment to the Council's Equal Opportunities Policy and implement the policy in relation to the job responsibilities. To ensure compliance with the council's information security policies. To motivate, train, develop, and performance manage staff to meet objectives effectively. Requirements

Current relevant national, regional and local legislation, frameworks and policies and their implications for local government such as the Equalities Act and Civil Contingencies Act 2004. Specific knowledge and current/best practice on the community safety agenda and the Council's role in the discharge of this agenda. Strong financial acumen and reasoning, used to working with large budgets. Ability to influence, support and work together with senior colleagues across the directorate, council and wider partnership. Is resilient, and able to inspire staff (and their representatives) through change with confident, energetic and visible leadership that ensures their buy-in and commitment.
