Oral Health Promotion is a commissioned service from Derbyshire County Council and sits within the Children's Specialist Service within Derbyshire Community Health Services Trust.

The role of the oral health improvement practitioner is to implement local oral health improvement strategies by providing a range of activities to specific population groups with identified oral health needs across Derbyshire County. It will broaden the scope of oral health promotion in the wider community by working in collaborative partnerships across sectors, agencies, and organizations in the development of oral health initiatives.

The focus of this role will be in the planning, delivery and evaluation of training health professionals and other agencies to increase their awareness of current evidence-based oral health issues. In addition, this role will support other key areas of contracted activities which are performance managed each quarter with our commissioners.

Main duties of the job

You will assist in the implementation of government preventive oral health schemes and projects at local level, eg, Brushing for Life, Toothbrushing Programmes in Early Years and Special Schools.

You will support the Oral Health Team in the organization and delivery of training health professionals and other agencies to increase their awareness of current evidence-based oral health issues. This includes child carers, staff, and parents with young children to establish healthy dental practices within early years settings, and to carers/parents/staff of vulnerable children and vulnerable adults.

You will actively contribute to service improvement by developing good quality assurance practices. This includes monitoring and evaluating oral health projects to review progress, improve practice/standards and service delivery.

Engage with the community at occasional events to promote the service and offer brief intervention support to clients and staff.

To produce expanded public information using a variety of presentation formats and experience of using digital platforms eg, MS TEAMS.

Educated to degree level or equivalent experience PTTLLS qualification or relevant teaching/training experience

Knowledge and Experience

Oral health issues and government initiatives Understanding of national/local strategies in relation to oral health Experience of teaching both small and large groups Knowledge of determinants of health and inequalities/disparities

Experience of working with vulnerable children, young people and adults

Skills and Attributes

Use of MS Office applications Excellent social communication skills with all age groups across diverse groups of the population Planning and preparation of appropriate resources for training/presentations Adaptable, flexible and comfortable working with change
