We are looking for applicants who are extremely organised, efficient and flexible and who are able to work in a busy, fast-paced and often challenging summer school environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to work calmly, effectively and positively, even whilst under pressure.

The ability to build a friendly but professional rapport with staff members and to lead them in a dynamic and efficient manner, set standards and norms of good practice and deal with any problems swiftly, fairly and appropriately, are all basic requirements of this post.

We are looking for Welfare Managers who are hard-working, reliable and professional and for those who are willing to go the extra mile to ensure the safety and well-being of all students. Welfare Managers must have the ability and skills to build a caring, friendly and positive rapport with students, while, at the same time, being able to deal appropriately with discipline issues when required.

We aim to give students an educational, culturally-enriching and memorable summer experience in a safe and supervised setting and we are looking to employ professional staff who will accept this responsibility and have the necessary wide-ranging skills, experience and commitment to help us achieve this goal. Qualifications

Applicants with any medical training or professional qualification in childcare, social work, education, counselling or psychotherapy are particularly welcomed. First aiders are particularly welcomed. Experience

Minimum of 2 years experience working with children in a pastoral and/or welfare context. Experience working in a residential context is essential. A strong awareness of Health, Safety and Safeguarding, specifically as it relates to residential accommodation, is essential. Experience managing staff is essential. Compensation From £900

per week. Statutory holiday pay is paid pro-rata with each salary payment on top of the stated weekly salary. Accommodation and all meals are provided free of charge. Working Day

The Welfare Manager occupies a key role within the Senior Team and assumes overall responsibility for the care, well-being and safety of the students at the centre. The Welfare Manager is pivotal to ensuring the success of the course and is responsible for upholding the good name and reputation of Bede’s.

You will be responsible for allocating students to bedrooms and for making sure, with the support of the Senior House Parents and House Parents, that students are comfortable, happy in their accommodation and that all their basic needs are being met at all times.

The Welfare Manager, with the help of the nurse, will organise and oversee the care of any sick children and will be expressly appointed to administer non-prescription medicines to any students suffering from common minor ailments such as sore throats or headaches.

It is essential that systems, procedures and protocols are in place to make sure that every aspect of students’ welfare is being considered, monitored and reviewed to make sure that they are living and studying in a clean, safe and happy environment.

The Managers’ office is the centre of the Summer School, it can be busy and intense at times, especially on arrival and departure days and during student free time (when many things can be happening at the same time), any arising welfare issues must be dealt with efficiently, sympathetically and effectively.
