Following its recent acquisition by SLR, Wardell Armstrong forms part of a leading global environmental and sustainability consultancy working on projects across the world from over 100 offices. The approximately 200 ecologists based in the various UK offices of SLR work together and with colleagues in other disciplines as part of "One Team" of talented consultants. In doing so, its core objective is to assist clients and colleagues alike in "Making Sustainability Happen". The opportunity: To meet increased demand, we are looking to increase our ecologist numbers to cover site surveys across the East and South East, with the successful candidates to join our dynamic and friendly ecology team based at our office in Bury St Edmunds. In this exciting role you will receive support and training to: Initially assist with and then independently undertake extended habitat surveys as your skills improve; Assist experienced ecologists with protected species (e.g. great crested newt, bat, badger and reptile) surveys giving you experience towards gaining protected species survey licences; Assist and then independently write a variety of ecological reports including for Biodiversity Net Gain; Be exposed to the full breadth of ecological consultancy in a short space of time; Gain insights into the planning system and infrastructure development in the UK. As the successful candidate you will: Have a genuine enthusiasm for wildlife and a willingness to develop new ecology field skills including plant identification; Hold a degree in ecology or a related discipline; Hold, or be working towards, ‘qualifying member' status, or higher, of CIEEM; Have a flexible approach to work, including frequent lone working, occasional unsocial hours (e.g. overnight bat surveys) and sometimes stays away from home (expenses paid); Be able to work effectively as part of a team; A full UK driving licence. We support our ecologists in gaining the necessary experience and references with regard to protected species survey licences.
