FDS Contracting Ltd is a leading provider of smoke control & fire detection systems for the fire safety industry, delivering turnkey project solutions to the residential and commercial construction industry.

We are looking for a Ventilation Design Engineer with experience in designing ventilation and HVAC systems. As part of the technical engineering team, the role will involve supporting the design of smoke control systems and other associated systems. This will cover all areas from initial concept through to final delivery of designs, and supporting the projects teams through installation, commissioning, customer acceptance and the issue of O&M manuals.

The role requires the ability to self-manage workloads and prioritise customer demands whilst working on multiple projects. Good organisational skills are essential along with clear & concise communication skills in both oral and written areas. The candidate should be a team player and be prepared to support the numerous stakeholders to the best of their ability.

Located at our office in Greenhithe, near Dartford in Kent, we work predominantly in London and the South East. The role is a full-time position based at the company office with immediate start. Candidates wishing to apply must be UK based, within reasonable commute of the office location, and available for start after working through normal notice periods.

Responsibilities and duties: Develop ventilation designs from concept through to installation stage. Carry out the ductworks design calculations necessary to allow duct and fan selection. Review technical aspects of tender submissions and advise on necessary systems required to meet specs. Assist the sales department to produce technical submissions to satisfy the demands of clients. Attend sales and design meetings as necessary to answer technical questions raised by the contractors, project designers or their specialist consultants. Review the designs and advise upon any revisions necessary. Work with Project Managers and Commissioning engineers with the delivery of the projects. Provide technical support to both internal and external stakeholders. Carry out all reasonable tasks and duties as requested by line management.

Requirements Knowledge and experience of: Five years experience in design of ventilation systems within building services, or specifically, mechanical smoke ventilation systems. Able to conduct detailed ductwork design calculations. Understanding general building services infrastructure. Supporting design departments to coordinate system designs. Understanding and experience of site installation practices for ventilation systems. Good attention to detail relevant to project needs. Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve successful delivery of designs. Capable of researching and developing solutions to mechanical related issues. Good diagnostic skills, including problem identification, root cause analysis, identification of solutions, ability to fully implement corrective solutions.

Qualifications: C&G, HNC/HND/Degree in mechanical or ventilation engineering or similar. Alternate route with time-served apprenticeship and NVQ L3 in related engineering discipline. Membership of relevant professional body, such as CIBSE or similar.
