The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) is an Executive Agency of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and is responsible for ensuring the safety, quality, and efficacy of veterinary medicines in the UK. We have a vacancy for a Senior Safety Assessor This exciting and interesting job puts you at the heart of authorising veterinary medicines in the UK. You will be a senior assessor within the Human and Environmental Safety Team, which is part of the VMD’s Authorisations Division. Assessment of data relating to human risk assessments being the primary focus, with secondary requirements being the assessment of environmental safety. You would also have the opportunity to provide training to external parties, including third country assessors, which would include the requirement to travel abroad on occasion. Experience You must have robust experience of summarising toxicology data from a variety of sources, of varying quality, and draw them together in a concise way, in order to come to a regulatory decision, or to make the case for a particular regulatory decision. We’re looking for you to have experience of: Pharmaceutical/Chemical toxicological risk assessment. Coaching and/or mentoring others in scientific and/or regulatory areas, including peer review of scientific reports. Presenting your risk assessments to peers for review, preferably as part of a committee. Presenting your findings to non-scientific stakeholders. We’re looking for someone that: Works well as part of a team. Is able to prioritise their work to maximise efficiency. Is proficient in the use of Microsoft Office 365 packages, particularly Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and can learn in-house packages quickly. Qualifications You must have at least one of the following qualification(s): An undergraduate degree in a relevant life science. A postgraduate degree in a relevant subject (but this requirement could be waived if your work experience is relevant and extensive).
