NHS HIGHLAND Raigmore Hospital Consultant in Care of the Elderly 7 PAs/28 hours per week £107,144 - £142,369 per annum pro rata Raigmore Hospital is the principal acute hospital of NHS Highland, which has a catchment area of 12,500 square miles and a population of around 320,000. On successful appointment into this post you will be welcomed into our team of friendly and enthusiastic clinicians at Raigmore Hospital. You will be joining an inclusive Care of the Elderly team. We are striving towards the development of an enhanced innovative service to meet the needs of the local population of older adults within the expansive area that is covered by NHS Highland. As a successful post holder you will be part of our new front door frailty service and have the opportunity to contribute to the development of this team, alongside our already well developed acute and community work. We have a long established embedded focus on person centred care for older people and aim to provide access to care and expert advice as close to older adults’ homes as we can. Due to the geography of the region we use a variety of methods to assess people in a timely fashion. We welcome innovation. At present in order to support clinicians and patients within the inherent landscape we use a combination of in person clinics in a variety of locations, visits to community hospitals, phone clinics, VC reviews using NHS Near Me and VC MDTs with care homes and GPs using Microsoft Teams. Inside Raigmore Hospital, the department manages 44 care of the elderly assessment beds and provides daily orthogeriatric input into a 32 bedded trauma orthopaedic ward. In addition, this post will support the department in delivering our new front door frailty assessment service based in the acute medical receiving unit. General medical on-call duties are shared between all the medical specialities. The on-call component of this post involves evening and daytime cover to the general medical take. Provision will be made to develop sub-specialty interests should the post holder wish to develop in a particular area. The department is supported by experienced and flexible management, administrative and secretarial teams. We value this support and wealth of knowledge which is always on hand. We are looking to maximise clinical, educational and research opportunities for Care of the Elderly across the North of Scotland by working to build ties with other NHS Boards. Many staff work and live here because of the unrivalled access to outdoor activities: on-piste or backcountry skiing, rock climbing, munroing, summer/winter mountaineering, or trekking in the numerous magnificent glens come as standard perks of the post. Amazing beaches are both close by and further afield and it is easy to find a beach to yourself even in the peak of summer. Join the many staff comparing their cycle routes on Strava, enjoying the wildscapes whilst wild swimming or improve your game on the fantastic local golf courses. Watersports and fishing possibilities are endless, from river kayaking to open seas and countless lochs. Loch Ness itself lies 10 miles away. Inverness is a compact city with many lovely nearby villages in which to live. There are good schools, many with wrap around childcare, which have an excellent reputation and a University campus next to the hospital. NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part-time staff.
