We have an opportunity for a Head of Casualty & Motor Lines Technical Underwriting to join our London-based team. This is a great job for someone with solid experience working in Casualty or Motor.

A bit about the job:
Within this role, you will focus on setting the Casualty and Motor underwriting strategy for our UK GI Commercial business to meet the insurance needs of our customers and drive the required performance in terms of premium and profit. This is a newly created role reporting to the Chief Underwriting Officer, Commercial Lines, and will be working directly with the Commercial Lines (CL) senior leadership to deliver our ambitious growth targets for the business.
Leading a team of around fourteen FTEs, you will deliver inspirational leadership and be a role model demonstrating at all times the attitude and behaviours required to cultivate an inclusive culture.
Additionally, you will:
Set the UK GI underwriting strategy for the Casualty and Motor Lines classes, across Commercial Lines
Ownership of the underwriting authority delegation to CL underwriters across Casualty and Motor Lines classes ensuring these are clearly understood and are fit for purpose
Ensuring the effective operation of control frameworks to ensure underwriters work within their Underwriting authorities.
Defining the CL Underwriting Risk Appetite in the context of the CL P&L pertaining to Casualty and Motor Lines classes.
Responsible for the creation and maintenance of technical underwriting guidance for Casualty and Motor Lines classes
In conjunction with the Exposure Management, Pricing and Insights – set pricing strategy and rates for Casualty and Motor Lines.
Work with the Reinsurance team to place our reinsurance treaties
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
First class Casualty and Motor underwriting, product & pricing know-how
Understanding of risks faced by a Commercial Lines business and the controls to manage and mitigate the risks with a particular emphasis on insured perils
Involvement in projects involving regulation and legislation
Strong Reinsurance experience & understanding of aggregation of risk and capital
High performance People Leadership
In this role, you’ll be ‘Certified’ under the Financial Conduct Authority / Prudential Regulation Authority’s Senior Managers and Certification Regime (SMCR). This means that we’ll need to complete some regulatory background checks on you before you take up your role and we’ll need to ask you some questions on an annual basis to make sure you remain ‘fit and proper’ to carry out your role. We’ll provide training on what holding a SMCR role means when you join us and annually thereafter.
