Our Glaucoma team is no exception, and we are delighted to be in a position to seek 2 Glaucoma Practitioners to join the team at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.

We welcome applicants from all professions (nurse, orthoptist, and optometrist) to join our dynamic and expanding multidisciplinary glaucoma team. There will be scope to exercise clinical autonomy as you will be responsible for the review of glaucoma patients independently, overseeing their care, assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and discharging. This will include history taking, physical examination, and the requesting of diagnostic procedures and clinical investigations. The option of clinical time in Orthoptics/Optometry clinics to maintain core skills and registration could be considered as part of this role.

Main duties of the job

Provide glaucoma specialist advice to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients and relatives/carers without supervision in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team in line with local and national targets. The practitioner will provide specialist care to the glaucoma service and support, dealing with complex situations and taking appropriate action in a variety of settings. Provide specialist training and education to staff and patients. Set, monitor, and evaluate standards of care in partnership with other members of the team to ensure delivery of holistic care and planning future developments with the ophthalmic/glaucoma team. Develop skills to assess and interpret specialist information within glaucoma diagnosis and take appropriate action based on protocols. Undertake clinical procedures that require dexterity and accuracy, including slit-lamp skills examination, fundoscopy, and gonioscopy. Organise own workload within the requirements of the specialist team activities and work plan. Maintain and develop skills and knowledge relevant to the glaucoma specialty of ophthalmology and act as a role model to help colleagues develop knowledge and skills.

Essential Registered Nurse (appropriate to branch) Current NMC registration Diploma plus specialist qualifications / experience within specialist area prepared to take degree level study Recognised teaching/assessing qualification or equivalent experience Meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) requirements for mentorship if relevant to role Evidence of ongoing continuous professional development Knowledge and understanding of relevant NHS policy or project specific policy context Understanding/experience of adult/child safeguarding Good IT skills Effective report writing skills Able to work independently and as a member of a team Effective organisation and time management skills

Desirable

Master's degree. Evidence of leading programme/programmes of education and/or training. Evidence of understanding of Trust Business Experience of working in the Trust Previously

Clinical skills and independent prescribing qualifications or working towards - to be commenced within 12 months of appointment Extensive post registration experience within Ophthalmology Extended clinical practice underpinned by training supervision & assessment. Audit/research experience and evidence of application to practice. Evidence of ongoing continuous professional development. Knowledge and understanding of relevant NHS policy or project specific policy context. Understanding/experience of adult/child safeguarding. Good IT skills. Evidence of good communication and interpersonal skills Effective report writing skills. Ability to work independently and across disciplines as a member of a multi-disciplinary team. Effective organisation and time management skills
