Qualifications: Relevant core professional nursing qualification (RMN/RNLD). Experience: Experience in working with adults with acute mental illness. Experience of supervising staff. Experience in formulating care plans and safety plans for service users. Experience in conducting assessments within an acute mental health setting. Skills: Assessment and problem-solving skills, particularly in the area of crisis assessment and working with emergency services. Advanced level of skill in de-escalation of distress and anger. Ability to apply approved PMVA techniques and to judge when these should be applied, seeking appropriate advice where necessary. Responsibilities: Will know, maintain and constantly strive to improve all standards of care. Ability to consult, liaise, and negotiate with service users, carers/family members, other professionals, and the wider community. Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team. Able to demonstrate evidence-based practice. A commitment to the delivery of services that are responsive to service users, culture, gender, and families. Communication and Prioritization: Good written and verbal communication skills. Able to prioritize work whilst working under pressure. Assess people at risk and seek appropriate advice and support. Able to delegate work whilst working under pressure. Teamwork and Initiative: Demonstrate ability to act on own initiative. Ability to work in partnership with other teams and services. Effective team player. Philosophy and Knowledge: A belief in recovery, psychosocial interventions, engagement, and the involvement of service users and carers in their care. Can demonstrate a sound working knowledge of the whole system and relevant care pathways. A good understanding of mental health services, including relevant legislation (Mental Health Act, Capacity Act). Emergency Services Understanding: A clear understanding and commitment to the role and purpose of Emergency Service Pathways (Street Triage and the Section 136 Suite). A clear understanding of the professional role, both profession-specific and the generic nature of a senior crisis practitioner. Understanding of the Care Programme Approach. A good understanding of the needs of people with mental health problems who are in acute crisis. Excellent assessment of clinical risk and experience of risk management.
