Senior Consultant Job Overview:
As a Senior Consultant, you will lead condition assessments and failure analysis of power system plants, focusing on Power Transformers and Instrument Transformers (CTs/VTs) to support reliable power networks. Collaborating with a diverse team of experts, you will perform forensic investigations on power system components, actively engaging in their disassembly and analysis.
Senior Consultant Responsibilities:
Electrical Testing:
Perform high-voltage and high-current tests, working with external labs, along with benchtop testing to assess winding condition (e.g., resistance and ratio measurements). Insulation Analysis:
Analyse oil and paper insulation health for oil-filled transformers using laboratory data. Component Inspection:
Detank transformers, dismantle components, and identify signs of aging, defects, and failure paths in insulation systems. Expert Collaboration:
Collaborate with industry organisations (e.g., Universities, Cigre, IEEE, IEC/BS) to leverage technical expertise. Technical Support:
Provide guidance to team members, ensuring the sharing of best practices and driving continuous improvement. Operational Responsibilities:
Support the daily operations of the projects hall and materials lab.
Senior Consultant Desired Attributes:
Professional Registration:
Working towards or already hold professional certification with a relevant institution. Partial Discharge Expertise:
Knowledge of partial discharge, DGA analysis, and their role in transformer aging and failure. Experience:
Background in transformer OEM, electrical utilities, consultancy, or power plant services is preferred. Transformer Knowledge:
Familiar with magnetic and electrical field distributions in transformers and methods to control them. Investigation Skills:
Ability to identify failure observations and determine their root causes during investigations. Education:
B.Eng (or higher) in Electrical Engineering. Technical Knowledge:
Strong understanding of power systems and their operations.
