An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Registered Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner to join our team within the theatre complex. The Post-operative care unit is a very busy, ever-evolving unit. The department runs a 7-day service and is responsible for the recovery of all patients following surgery including maternity, trauma and emergency services.

This role is an opportunity to work with a well-established unit within CBU 2. It requires a highly motivated individual to lead and support the growing team and work with the wider teams in CBU to develop close professional working relationships.

The interview date for this role is the 17th January 2025.

Main duties of the job As lead nurse in PACU, you must be a highly motivated individual responsible for the leadership and operational management of the department. You will be responsible for leading the team to provide excellent post-operative care for all patients undergoing surgery. You will ensure each patient will have their individualised care by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care in partnership with the patient and the multidisciplinary teams. You will lead the team to support the ongoing physiology and monitoring of patients post-operatively.

You and your team will be working closely with ICU giving support for patients that require extended more complex recovery.

You will act as a role model to all staff and demonstrate excellent motivational, communication and clinical skills ensuring good teamwork and a supportive environment for staff whilst ensuring the highest standards of care are demonstrated at all times.

This exciting new opportunity requires excellent organisational and time management skills, and the post holder must have the ability to manage difficult situations and encourage change.

Person Specification Experience Essential Experience of leading and managing a team of nurses. Previous experience of change management & problem solving. Experience of handling clinical incidents & complaints.

Qualifications Essential 1st level registered nurse (equivalent to 1st degree) plus two years experience at either Nurse Grade F or Band 6 plus additional qualifications including Assessing and Mentoring qualification and additional relevant degree (or evidence of working towards a degree). Evidence of ongoing dynamic continuing professional development within the speciality linked to demonstrable clinical competencies. Basic life support training.

Desirable NVQ D32/33 Assessor Course.

Knowledge and awareness Essential Thorough speciality knowledge relevant to the department. Understanding of audit & research methodologies. Understanding of resource management, health & safety, clinical risk & quality issues. Handling clinical incidents & complaints. Awareness of equality & diversity.

Desirable Knowledge of web site access.
