As a Lead Fiber Characterization Technician, you'll oversee all aspects of fiber optic testing and troubleshooting in the field. You’ll manage your team, communicate key updates to the management team, and ensure the successful execution of projects. This role is perfect for someone with strong technical skills, leadership abilities, and a commitment to quality. Responsibilities: Conduct comprehensive fiber characterization tests including OTDR, Optical Return Loss, Optical Power Loss, Dispersion Tests, PMD, and CD. Maintain and calibrate testing tools and equipment. Prepare and submit daily progress reports to the installation supervisor. Delegate tasks to lower-level installers, ensuring efficiency, quality, and safety. Verify test results and coordinate testing procedures within customer maintenance windows. Perform quality assurance on all reports and ensure accurate test parameters. Interface with customers, providing technical support and project updates. Handle hardware testing, including power verification, device provisioning, and system tests. Conduct long-term, load, stress, and performance characterization testing. Manage on-site job records and ensure adherence to project deadlines and quality standards. Travel to various job sites, potentially 75-100% of the time, and adapt to varying work schedules. Skills/Must Have: Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Data Center/PoP/CO commissioning, provisioning, test & turn-up. Proficiency with Fiber Characterization test equipment (EXFO, VIAVI, etc.) and fiber cleaning kits. Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of optical routing equipment installations. Familiarity with fiber optic cable installation & testing practices, AC/DC power, and network troubleshooting. Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and project management software. Clean driving record, criminal background check, and successful drug test required. Salary & Benefits: $30-$35/Hr Health, dental, and vision insurance. Retirement plan with company match.
