The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to join a motivated and innovative psychology team delivering a clinical service within HMP Shotts. This is a part-time (0.7wte), fixed term post based in HMP Shotts. The successful applicant will support the service lead in the delivery and governance of a high-quality psychology service. They will provide support to, and work alongside psychology colleagues and a multidisciplinary team, providing assessment, care and treatment to individuals currently in prison. The successful applicant will hold a small clinical caseload and provide clinical supervision to other psychologists. They will support the Lead for Forensic Clinical Psychology in leading strategic development of the psychological service including training, supervision and coordination of therapies.
The post holder will be line managed by the Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Forensic Clinical Psychology Service. The post holder will have regular supervision and access to continuing professional development. This post-holder will be part of the wider Forensic Clinical Psychology Service. What we'll need you to bring
To have a post-graduate Doctoral Level (or equivalent) degree in Clinical or Counselling or Health Psychology and be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Registered Clinical or Registered Counselling or Registered Health Psychologist.
To have significant experience in working with individuals, their family or carers, who experience complex and enduring mental health difficulties.
To have significant experience in supporting, teaching and consultation with other mental health professionals working within psychological settings.
To have proven ability to undertake formative and summative clinical assessments, and prepare reports demonstrating interpretation of findings.
Have completed recognised formal training in supervision of applied psychologists.
Have completed further courses of additional learning relevant to the clinical skills demanded by the post as identified in the Role Profile.
To have knowledge of relevant legislation and current clinical standards/guidelines, and knowledge of relevant local, and national policies, guidelines, and standards.
Have demonstrated the ability to work cooperatively as a member of a multi-professional/multi-agency service and within wider systems. This includes skills of consultation, liaison and negotiation.
Have demonstrated experience of leading on projects and/or supporting senior psychologists in managing their remit within the Service.
It would be great if you also have
Training in specific forensic risk assessment tools, personality assessment and/or therapies relevant to the context.
Significant experience of working with prisoners, forensic or other complex populations.
Evidence of supervising Doctoral and/or Masters level psychology trainees.
Specialist knowledge of neuropsychological function as well as brain anatomy and function.
Specialist knowledge of forensic mental health.
Ability to work in a sensitive manner with respect to diversity, gender, ethnic, cultural and philosophical issues with a wide range of individuals and organisations.
Be aware of limits of one's competence and expertise.
Contract type
Fixed Term or Secondment for 12 months, Part Time, 25.9 hours. Please note this is a part time post and the salary for this position will be pro-rata.
Location and Working Pattern
This role will be based in HMP Shotts. The working pattern for this role is Mon-Fri; 9:00-5:00 pro rata.
