The Specialist Drug and Alcohol Service is looking to appoint a band 6 registered mental health nurse to work within the Specialist Drug and Alcohol Service Unit Team based at Lochfield Road Primary Care Centre in Dumfries for 28.5 hrs per week, however there may be scope to increase to full time at a later date. This post will initially be as a caseload holder post within the Dumfries Unit team; however, as you are employed by the service your role may alter depending on service needs. You must be able to travel independently to undertake home visits. Please note that due to the requirement to carry equipment; public transport would not be a suitable means of transport. Experience within the field of addiction or supporting people with addiction would be preferred. The service operates Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5.00pm with no shift work. We are a large service covering all of Dumfries and Galloway supporting people age 18 and over with issues relating to drugs and alcohol. We are predominantly a prescribing service and work closely with third sector agencies. The work we do can be mentally demanding and deals with varying risks on a daily basis. We are required to complete a large quantity of documentation along with being flexible to the ever-changing needs of our patients. The post holder must have exceptional communication and time management skills. As well as supporting people with issues relating to drugs and alcohol we offer interventions/treatments for physical health and mental health therefore the post holder must be willing to undertake additional training in both areas, which will include venepuncture and ECG training. The service offers training opportunities to all members of staff and is open to training suggestions which enhance patient experience. The post holder must be willing to undertake training around independent prescribing after a period of time within the role. The service has a mixture of mental health and adult nursing staff, as well as independent nurse prescribers, pharmacists, a specialist occupational therapist alongside medical staff and a small psychology team. For informal inquiries please contact Team Leader Gemma Tilbury on 01387 244555 or by email at gemma.tilbury@nhs.scot. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR CANDIDATES
