Healthcare Scientist Associate Practitioner UK NEQAS/GenQA, Department of Laboratory Medicine, NHS Lothian Band 4 Permanent post Applications are invited for the post of Healthcare Scientist Associate Practitioner for UK NEQAS/Genomics Quality Assessment Service. The UK National External Quality Assessment Service (UK NEQAS) is an international organisation facilitating optimal patient care by providing a comprehensive assessment service for a wide range of disciplines throughout laboratory medicine. This is an excellent opportunity to join the UK NEQAS Genomics centre which comprises two centres; one based in Edinburgh and the second in Oxford University Foundation NHS Trust. This post will be located in the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. The Genomics EQA Scheme is a well-established and accredited EQA provider within the field of genomic diagnostic testing. We are seeking a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the team in this internationally respected EQA centre. The post holder will be expected to rise to the challenges associated with the delivery of assessing the standard of service of laboratories, and will provide the EQA sample handling, distributions and support the scientific staff within GenQA to evaluate the quality of genomic laboratory testing. Applicants should be educated to SCQF Level 8 e.g. HND in Biological Science or NVQ4 or equivalent level of knowledge and ideally have experience of molecular biology and genetics. Informal enquiries are welcome and should be directed to Wendy Hannant (telephone 0131 242 6898; email Wendy.Hannant@genqa.org). Please note we anticipate a high level of interest in this position and may close the vacancy early once a sufficient amount of applications are received. Therefore, please make sure you complete and submit your application at an early stage. We will fully support disabled candidates, and candidates with long-term conditions or who are neurodivergent by making reasonable adjustments to our recruitment policy and practices. NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part-time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Recruiting Board. NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.
