The Role

The Ships Second Engineer has responsibility for taking all necessary actions for safety, security, pollution prevention and the efficient operation of the ship under the direction of the Chief Engineer.

Principal Responsibilities

Assisting the Chief Engineer in the safe operation and maintenance of the ship’s machinery Assisting the Chief Engineer as required testing stand-by systems on a regular basis and in accordance with Company and regulatory procedures Fulfil requirements as required under the Planned Maintenance schedule Bunker operations with Chief Engineer Maintenance of Counter Pollution and Deck equipment as appropriate Engine room watch keeper Comply with pollution prevention requirements Assist with deck operations as required by the Master. Form part of the vessels Emergency team Take control of Engine room fire parties Organise and manage seamen when working in the Engine room Maintain Oil record book and Engine room logbook Maintain inventory of Mechanical spares Undertake training as required to comply with Company regulations and legislative requirements Certificates
