The Craighalbert Centre, 1 Craighalbert Way, Cumbernauld G68 0LS Role:

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Specialist Speech and Language Therapist/Teacher

Closing Date:

29th January 2025 Purpose of the Role: The Craighalbert Centre (The Scottish Centre for Children with Motor Impairments) works with families and partners to deliver integrated learning, therapy, and care for children in Scotland, supporting the enablement of children affected by motor impairments to achieve their potential and fulfil their ambitions. We are actively seeking a flexible, innovative, and child-centred individual to join our small but growing Communication Team. The successful applicant will be knowledgeable and passionate about working in AAC and dedicated to improving outcomes for all our learners through the application of evidence-informed practice. Evidence of creativity and flexibility will be key. We welcome experienced applicants from an SLT or Teaching background. As an integral part of our commitment to fostering a personalised and inclusive environment, we create specialised settings that nurture children's learning, curiosity, and well-being. Completing dynamic assessments alongside key communication partners, identifying and implementing appropriate communication tools, and supporting communication partners to use interventions and strategies such as Aided Language Stimulation will be integral to this role. The bulk of this support will be integrated across a learner’s day within genuine naturally occurring communication opportunities, and therefore episodic 1:1 therapy will be less frequent. There will be a significant focus on creating an accessible language learning environment, and coaching of communication partners will be a core component of this role. Excellent collaborative working within an integrated multi-professional team is also essential. We offer a range of benefits, including an attractive salary package, SSPA or NHS Scotland Pension Scheme, substantial annual leave allowance (55 days), family support, access to an employee assistance program, and complimentary on-site parking. To apply, please email your CV to HR@craighalbert.org.uk along with a supporting statement of no more than 700 words, outlining how your knowledge, experience, and attributes enable you to meet the responsibilities of this position. Please provide details of your current salary and two referees, one of whom should be your current or most recent employer. Referees will only be contacted once a formal offer of employment is extended. Interviews will be conducted onsite at the Centre during the week beginning 3rd February 2025 and will include a competency-based interview, a tour of the Centre, and a short task. This role is a permanent full-time position, and a comprehensive job description can be found in the job pack.
