Accounting Specialist

supports the Finance and Accounting Department at Latino Community Credit Union (LCCU) and its affiliated organizations, including the Latino Community Development Center (LCDC). This position manages and oversees key accounting functions, including accounts payable, reconciliations, and financial reporting. This role is crucial in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information and in identifying opportunities for process improvements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts and financial data, preparing detailed reports for senior management as needed. Ensure compliance with all financial regulations, including preparing and filing 1099s and other vendor-related documents for LCCU and affiliated organizations. Assist in preparing documentation for internal and external audits, ensuring that all records are accurate and up to date. Assist in identifying and implementing process improvements within the accounting function to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Perform advanced daily and monthly reconciliations, including balancing teller activities and corporate credit card accounts. Prepare adjusting journal entries to properly reflect ledger data. Maintain and improve proficiency in relevant accounting software and systems, including QuickBooks, Excel, and other tools. Leverage advanced tools such as VBA, Power Query, SQL, Python, or Tableau as needed. Organize and maintain comprehensive department record-keeping, including updating policies and procedures as needed. Assist branch personnel and other departments in accurate reporting. Provide high-level backup support for other team members, ensuring continuity of operations in the department. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in business/finance/accounting or 1-4 years of progressive experience in accounting, preferably within a financial institution. Professional proficiency in English. Spanish fluency is not required but preferred. Expertise in QuickBooks, Excel, and other Microsoft Office products. Advanced skills in VBA, Power Query, SQL, Python, or Tableau are highly desirable. Strong ability to understand and calculate figures and amounts such as interest, proportions, and percentages, with proven problem-solving abilities. Exceptional organizational skills with a keen attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. Strong team player, capable of working effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Experience in identifying and implementing process improvements within the accounting function.
