Acute Adult In-Patient Ward Specialty Doctor

Phoenix ward is located in Littlemore Hospital, Sandford Lane, Oxford, OX4 4TN. It is a male, single-sex ward for adults of working age (AWA) population of Oxfordshire. There are approximately 7 male admissions per week in Oxfordshire. Inpatients are treated by a multidisciplinary team led by a consultant and the expectation is that there is shared responsibility for clinical management at an appropriate level. All inpatients have a care coordinator (either existing or allocated) and it is expected that the CCO is actively involved in inpatient care, thereby forming a link to AMHTs. The post-holder will provide clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team on the ward along with the ward manager and modern matron and will assume consultant responsibility for patients admitted to the ward. Main duties of the job

The specialty doctor posts on Phoenix ward were created to support the development of the inpatient psychiatric service to adults of working age in Oxfordshire. One of the 2 posts will be vacant from October as the existing post holder is moving abroad. Job responsibilities

Day-to-day management of the inpatients on the wards, including contribution to ward-rounds, CPA review, discharge planning meetings, and Mental Health Act managers or tribunal hearings under the clinical supervision of dedicated inpatient consultants. Liaison with the Community Mental Health team to ensure coordinated clinical care of patients. Support the assessment and management of patients brought to the Health Based Place of Safety. Providing timely written correspondence to relevant professionals documenting assessments, ongoing management, progress, and discharge summaries. Work collaboratively with other agencies to manage smooth and timely transfer into and out of the unit. Active commitment to delivering the Trust's clinical governance agenda. Contribution to developing and delivering improved clinical services. Contribution to the collection of data as required by the Trust and other relevant agencies. Cross-cover with specialty doctor and trainees for Ashurst Ward for annual leave, study leave, and brief periods of sickness absence. Administer ECT on a rota with the other specialty doctors and trainees under exceptional circumstances. Person Specification
