The Trust is in the process of expanding its in-house Tobacco Dependency Treatment Service and is looking for an exceptional Advisor to deliver a highly effective service.

The service will offer assessment, advice, and evidence-based treatment including Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), psycho-social intervention and support to those who use Tobacco within the acute healthcare setting.

Main duties of the job This job description is an outline of the main duties of the post. The post holder will be required to undertake other duties commensurate with the grade as directed.

Provide 1:1 behavioural support and pharmacotherapy advice for smokers who wish to quit and to support temporary abstinence during a hospital admission.

Promote the general health and wellbeing of people who use the service through offering healthy lifestyle advice and support.

Work with patients and staff to change their behaviour to improve their health.

Act as a smoke free champion promoting the smoke free message through their day-to-day work.

Provide advice and support to ward staff, including reinforcing the training provided to inpatient teams about the smoking cessation and Smoke Free Sites.

Ensure seamless transition to One Lincolnshire Smoking Services for patients who wish to quit smoking and need further support when they leave hospital.

Signpost and refer to other community harm-reduction services such as alcohol care teams or weight management programmes.

Person specification Qualifications

NVQ/Apprenticeship level 3 in healthcare or equivalent experience

NCSCT Smoking Cessation Practitioner training

Grades A-D or 3-9 in GCSE Maths and English or equivalent

Level 2 smoking cessation training

Specific training in health promotion/behaviour change interventions

Previous Experience

Experience of providing healthcare, healthcare advice or health promotion advice to patients or members of the public

Understanding of the drivers of ill health and mental health

Evidence of previous team working

Confidence in working with a wide variety of partners

Self-awareness around limitations of skills and competencies and ability to work within them

Experience of delivering smoking cessation support

Experience of working in acute NHS secondary care sector

Knowledge of tobacco treatment

Experience working with people in a behaviour change context

Knowledge and Skills

Good verbal and written communications skills

Ability to prioritise workload

Work effectively and autonomously without direct supervision and/or as part of a team

Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service and service user

Confident in dealing with people, even in challenging circumstances

Ability to present an open and non-judgemental demeanour

Ability to actively listen and respond to needs of patients

Ability to maintain professional and confidential approach at all times

Awareness of the importance of taking personal responsibility and providing peer support for wellbeing

Ability to develop skills & Knowledge to achieve level NVQ within 2 years of joining TDA

Ability to evidence/demonstrate key values and behaviours in line with the Trust framework

Specific

Be able to travel independently between different sites across the Trust without the use of public transport
