In response to the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) report No One's Listening, Barts Health will pilot an urgent emergency care bypass model. We are seeking to appoint a Band 5 nurse as part of a team of staff to work within the service.

The successful applicants will be providing effective nursing care within a new service and will work alongside the emergency department and the haemoglobinopathy service. The unit will provide triage, assessment, and care delivery to Sickle Cell patients who present to the Royal London Hospital Emergency Department. As such, the role requires a high level of enthusiasm, drive, organisation, and a willingness to learn.

Main duties of the job

In conjunction with the haemoglobinopathies teams across Barts Health NHS Trust, the post holder will support the ongoing development and delivery of a high-quality sickle cell service across the Trust. Barts Health NHS Trust has been designated as a Haemoglobinopathy Coordinating Centre for sickle cell disease, thalassaemia, and other rare inherited anaemias. The Royal London Hospital is the host site within the Trust, and this post provides an exciting opportunity to join the team. The postholder will play an important role in the management of people with sickle cell disease presenting to the Royal London Hospital who require acute day case care. They will be expected to provide excellent customer care for patients, which may include communication with distressed and anxious patients and relatives, treating them with tact and empathy, ensuring the professional image of the Trust is maintained at all times.
