Our Microbiology laboratory provides a full microbiological service for the diagnosis of infection including bacteriology, serology, parasitology, TB, and molecular sections. We consist of over 50 members of staff and, working closely with our other ESNEFT Microbiology laboratory situated in Colchester, we perform a wide repertoire of both traditional and automated testing.

Responsibilities:
Responsible as lead Biomedical Scientist for a specialist area. Manages and coordinates the day-to-day activities of the team. Leads on service improvement. Processes specialist investigations and is responsible for standard and quality of results. Provides specialist advice to clinicians regarding the appropriateness of tests and timescales. Provides specialist service e.g., training, advanced troubleshooting, problem-solving for the specialist area. To work flexibly in reflection of service needs which may include an extended working day and/or participation in delivery of a 24-hour, 7-day per week service.
The work of the service brings staff into constant contact with human body fluids, tissues, and hazardous chemicals. This may include blood, pus, urine, faeces, and respiratory secretions.
