We are looking for an experienced clinical pharmacist with demonstrated leadership skills to join our Trust and lead a high-quality clinical pharmacy service to the hepatology and gastroenterology directorates. You will be an individual with proven experience in a hospital pharmacy setting with extensive experience working in a clinical role. Experience in prescribing independently for hepatology and gastroenterology patients is required to apply for this role at 8b level. However, individuals without this experience can apply for this role at 8a level and training and development will be provided to enable progression. You will have excellent communication skills, a commitment to patient care, and experience of directorate working including managing high-cost drugs and contributing to clinical guidelines and protocols and education programmes. You will also oversee the clinical pharmacy service to hepatology and gastroenterology. Main duties of the job

Be a visible pharmacy leader and role model with the accountability and responsibility for the provision and development of safe, effective, and cost-effective pharmacy services to hepatology and gastroenterology. Develop a strategic plan for the operational delivery of clinical pharmacy services to hepatology and gastroenterology, supporting a positive patient experience and the medicines optimisation agenda. Seek and implement timely initiatives and policies to improve quality, safety, performance, service delivery, and patient flow. Work as an independent prescriber in HCV clinics, PBC clinics, hepatology clinics, and on in-patient wards. Support the education and development of the clinical pharmacy workforce including Pharmacists, Medicines Management Technicians, and Medicines Management Assistants. Manage, appraise, and develop pharmacy staff within the team including the setting of objectives, ensuring adequate training, and overseeing performance. Act as a DPP for pharmacist independent prescribers. Promote the safe, rational, and cost-effective use of medicines, working closely with nursing, medical staff, and healthcare managers. Develop clinical guidelines and policies to ensure the safe and effective use of medicines and advanced therapies. About us

Education, Qualifications and Training

First Degree in pharmacy (Masters or equivalent). Registered member of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). Continuous Professional Development to meet the requirements of the GPhC. Postgraduate qualification in pharmacy at least to Diploma/MSc level, relevant to post or equivalent experience. Member of Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain or specialist pharmacist group. Management training. Doctorate in Pharmacy or equivalent demonstrable knowledge and experience. Member of RPS Faculty. Experience & Knowledge Required

Broad post-registration experience at least part of which must be of hospital pharmacy. A length of experience sufficient to gain the competencies required for the post. Knowledge of Medicines & Pharmacy Legislation, professional ethics, Health & Safety, and the wider Health Service. Knowledge of Clinical Governance, Medicines Optimisation, Patient Safety, Risk Management, NICE guidance, Shared Care Guidelines, and the development agenda relevant to the post. Knowledge of theoretical and practical issues, including professional guidelines and legislation, related to the use of medicines and practice of pharmacy in the specialist areas. Understanding and practical experience of audit and service improvement. Experience of managing a team of professional and support staff. Experience of medicines management service development and quality improvement. Experience of higher education teaching and research. Wide experience of pharmacy including participation at a senior level in delivery of the specialist service. Recent experience in hospital pharmacy relating to the specialty area. Providing advice, information, and support to clinical directorates. Thorough knowledge of the specialty in secondary care and the 'bigger picture' - how it impacts on primary care and key issues for other stakeholders. Pharmacy Legislation, professional ethics, Health & Safety, and the wider Health Service. National standards and any medicines management standards relevant to the specialty. Excellent clinical problem-solving skills and clinical knowledge. Evidence of multi-disciplinary team working. Skills & Attributes
