Are you committed to making a real difference in perinatal mental health care? We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual with lived experience of perinatal mental illness to join Steps Together - the West Midlands Perinatal Provider Collaborative - as an Advanced Lived Experience Practitioner in Co-production.

This exciting new role offers the opportunity to work alongside the provider collaborative team, leading the lived experience strategy for the perinatal services, to influence and co-create services that truly reflect the needs of service users and their families.

As part of our collaborative team, you will work across the West Midlands, leading and facilitating co-production and working to dissolve power imbalances, ensuring the voices of those accessing services are heard and integrated into every level of service design. This is a hybrid working role with a combination of home working, office hours and independent travel to our sites across the West Midlands. Main duties of the job

It is anticipated that this will be a dynamic role with lots of variation and will include tasks such as:

Leading co-production activities, ensuring service users and carers have a direct say in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of services. Providing leadership and supervision to the Lived Experience workforce and our Perinatal Lived Experience network. Developing and implementing innovative engagement opportunities for people involved in services to contribute to service development and quality assurance. Develop and facilitate training sessions and engagement opportunities to enhance understanding of co-production practices and patient experience. Collaborate with staff, people who access our services and external partners to create an inclusive responsive care environment.

Job responsibilities

In this role, you will: Actively promote, co-ordinate, and facilitate co-production and involvement opportunities at all levels across the collaborative. Use your lived experience to shape service development, ensuring care aligns with the diverse needs of people who access our services and their loved ones/families. Lead the development of engagement strategies to strengthen the lived experience network, offering leadership, support, and professional supervision to those contributing to the network on a sessional or ongoing basis. Monitor and evaluate service delivery, using feedback to drive improvements and ensure services meet the diverse needs of the perinatal population. Build and maintain strong relationships with partner organisations, local communities, and other stakeholders to ensure services are responsive and inclusive. Play an active role in steering groups, governance meetings, and decision-making forums, ensuring the lived experience perspective is included in planning and quality assurance.

If you have lived experience of perinatal mental illness, a working understanding of systems and processes used to design and deliver high quality services, and are dedicated to driving change through co-production, we would love to hear from you.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Undergraduate degree or able to demonstrate equivalent skills in research, writing or analysis.

Desirable

Peer support worker training.

Experience

Essential

Lived experience of recovery from mental and emotional distress, and experience of using perinatal care mental health services.

Desirable

Experience of working in an NHS or similar statutory setting.

Skills & Knowledge

Essential

Understanding of perinatal mental health problems, and the challenges co-existing with this, and the impact this can have on individuals, carers and their families.

Desirable

Literacy in quality improvement methodology.

Personal Attributes

Essential

An ability to independently travel throughout the West Midlands on a regular basis as required. Passion for partnership working, engagement, participation and co-production.
