You will use your passion, empathy and specialist knowledge of HIV to deliver advanced nursing skills to our patients and drive training and education to our team of Nurses. Main duties of the job

The ANP will inform the strategic direction of the clinic as well as in the HIV/GUM Directorate regarding the continued development of nurse-led healthcare for patients living with HIV. They will coordinate effective communication across the multi-professional team, between departments. The ANP will provide specialist education and development for nursing staff and colleagues through education programmes, individual development programmes and clinical supervision. The ANP promotes excellence in nursing practice through the integration of expert clinical practice, education, consultancy, acting as a resource, developing practice and commitment to research and audit. Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) in HIV will use their specialist knowledge, skills and experience in providing HIV healthcare to undifferentiated patients living with HIV within the Specialist Care division. They will work as a self-directed independent practitioner managing patients with complex needs for regular follow-up care and treatment, providing care which focuses on enabling patients to optimise their health. The ANP will inform the strategic direction of the service regarding the continued development of nurse-led HIV care. They will coordinate effective communication across the multi-professional team, between departments and the community. The ANP will provide specialist education and development for nursing staff and colleagues through education programmes, individual development programmes and clinical supervision. The ANP will directly line manage the Nurse Practitioner team and support the nursing team and junior doctors to complete competency-based training programmes appropriate to their level. The ANP promotes excellence in nursing practice through the integration of expert clinical practice, education, consultancy, acting as a resource, developing practice and commitment to research and audit. Clinical Responsibilities: Use their advanced expertise and clinical skills to independently manage HIV patients including those with highly complex treatment and psycho-social needs. Assess and interpret complex clinical information and data in partnership with the patient to make appropriate diagnoses, developing and implementing a plan of healthcare management including prescribing medications or referring for medical review if required. Use highly developed communication skills to assess situations and empathetically impart information, which is often complex and sensitive, at all levels of interaction with others. Evaluate the effectiveness of the healthcare management plan on an ongoing basis and initiate any further action required. Use expertise in the emergency presentation of HIV-related problems, according to an agreed protocol, to triage walk-in patients and provide a telephone triage service to assess patients’ immediate needs and direct them to the appropriate service. Use advanced expertise in health promotion and the prevention of illness to assess and advise patients with particular reference to smoking cessation, diet, recreational drug use, mental health, immunisation. Professional and Personal Responsibilities: To act as a role model and promote excellence in nursing practice as well as promoting professional and clinical nursing skills within the Directorate. To be responsible for working within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and all Trust and Directorate guidelines. To maintain and respect patient confidentiality. To work in accordance with local and national guidelines for HIV/GUM. To maintain an expert level of competence and continue with their own personal and professional development through relevant professional and academic study (Masters Level). To maintain accurate and up to date medical and nursing notes in accordance to Trust and NMC guidelines. Person specification

Education and Qualifications

RN plus educated to Masters level or working towards Relevant HIV specific courses/training Physical assessment qualification or working towards Teaching/mentorship course or extensive clinical teaching experience Evidence of extensive professional development Cervical smear taking Experience

Experience of managing a case load of HIV patients independently Experience of working with complex patients who require additional MDT referral and input Experience of recruitment of patients to clinical trials/ Experience of research in practice Experience of management in the clinical setting Experienced in the supply and administration of medication under Patient Group Directions or practice as a Non-Medical Prescriber (if qualified NMP) Experience of undertaking clinical audit/research in practice and presenting findings to peers in the HIV sector. Demonstrable experience of HIV related service improvement or QI initiatives Experience of working under Patient Group Directions Experience of formulating protocols and guidelines Experience in genito-urinary medicine/sexual and reproductive healthcare Skills and knowledge

Comprehensive theoretical and clinical knowledge of HIV related health conditions Able to assess and interpret complex clinical information and data in partnership with the patient to make appropriate diagnoses, developing and implementing a plan of healthcare management including prescribing medications or referring for medical review if required for HIV patients. Use expertise in the emergency presentation of HIV-related problems, according to an agreed protocol, to provide a telephone triage service to assess patients’ immediate needs and direct them to the appropriate service. Able to assess and support patients experiencing problems with adherence and provide treatment support. Knowledge of 3rd sector support services including HIV Peer Support. Advise on the promotion of health and the prevention of illness, with particular reference to smoking cessation, Risk reduction, diet, immunisations, sexual health and contraception. Effective leadership skills. Excellent standards of written/oral communication. Excellent IT skills including Word/Excel. Able to manage patients with culturally, sexuality and gender sensitive issues. Venepuncture. Effective time management and prioritisation skills. Case load management skills. Ability to independently assess patients, interpret clinical findings diagnose and implement appropriate treatment for GUM related conditions within own competency and refer to physician as appropriate.
